Arawak.
Aboriginal people of the
Caribbean, now extinct, whose art survives in cult images of wood, stone,
bone, shell and clay. Although the figures are highly stylized, details of
face, torso and joints are realistically rendered. The figures were
embellished with gold ornaments.
