Aquarelle (Fr. watercolour). A
painting executed in transparent watercolour. The term is sometimes
applied to delicate music.

opaque, watercolours. Although aquarelle was known to the ancient
Egyptians, it did not achieve popularity in Europe until the 18th and
19th centuries. It was used especially in France and England by
landscape painters.
